The author, Carol Margaret Tetlow, launched her book « Too Close For Comfort » last Saturday at the Waterstones bookstore in England. Carol Margaret Tetlow retired from general practice two years ago and now spends her time writing and playing tennis. She lives in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales with nine donkeys, two ponies, four Labradors, two cats and one very long suffering husband. Here is a message received from the author:

Carol Margaret Tetlow is a fairly recently retired family doctor who now has the time to live life to the full, write, play tennis, walk dogs and train donkeys and ponies. Coming from a medical background, it is no surprise that her novels are based in family medicine. But people love medical matters. So, set against a backdrop of everyday life in a medical centre, add in some good characters, personal dilemmas and a soupcon of romance and hopefully…. what’s not to like?

Out of Practice tells the story of one of the doctors and how she has to cope when her professional and personal lives fall apart simultaneously. Faith Hope and Clarity tells the story of another of the doctors, an insecure woman who copes with life’s ups and downs by comfort eating and how she finds out who her real friends are.

Canadian author Geza Tatrallyay will read from his memoir, The Expo Affair, the second book in his Cold War Escape series, published by Guernica Editions under its MiroLand Imprint. This is a narrative memoir of international intrigue and romance that took place in the exotic setting of Expo ’70 in Osaka, Japan. As a host at the Ontario Pavilion, the author, Geza Tatrallyay, was approached by three Czechoslovak hostesses who wanted to defect to Canada. What follows are his efforts to make their wish come true. Notables such as former Prime Minister Trudeau, External Affairs Minister Mitchell Sharp and General George Kitching play a role, as do individuals who have since become prominent in Canada as businessmen, artists and ambassadors.

Yesterday evening Carol Margaret Tetlow gave a talk about her books to the Ainderby Steeple and District branch of the Women’s Institute. What a lovely group of ladies! There might only have been about 25 present but they were a warm and receptive audience. She sold several copies of her novels and from each sale will be donating 25% to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (www.bcrfcure.org). Together with her fee for attending, she raised £40, which was brilliant.
